Zenith / The Definitive Answer

Otto minuti e mezzo di "Rock Opera", con melodie ipnotiche, improvvisi slap di basso, battute da 5/8, sitar, tambura, voci all'incontrario per il brano che ha dato vita al progetto "Zenith & Nadir"
8 minutes and a half for a "Rock Opera" featuring hypnotic melodies, sudden bass slaps, 5/8 bars, sitars, tamburas, reverse voices... the song that gave life to "Zenith & Nadir"

"Zenith / The Definitive Answer"

1998

From the CD "Zenith"

Credits:
Lord Bygon: vocals, piano, bass, keyboards, guitars, drums.

Song Story:

In the beginning, "Zenith" and "The Definitive Answer" were two distinct songs: the second was born the way you can hear it now, as a Progressive Rock opera full of indian sounds, some weird surprises and a melody that has become the leit motiv for the whole "Zenith & Nadir" project, the same melody that starts "Zenith" and that you'll find in other songs like "Gorgeous Passion". The 1998 version of "Zenith / The Definitive Answer" was really powerful, but I decided I had record it again for the new reissue of the CD "Zenith", so here's this brand new version recorded in the Spring of 2003. Some will say (someone actually did) that eight minutes and a half are too many for a song, and that only Genesis and Pink Floyd could afford to make such long tunes... I don't agree and I don't care. This is how the song was born, as an epic incipit to "Zenith". When you have the CD in your hands (of course, you're going to buy it, don't you?) you'll find the thread between all the "Zenith" songs. In that very moment, you'll understand what this is all about.

Lyrics

"Zenith"
It's hard to be yourself for such a long time
but there's no other way to work it out
I've tried to touch the zenith of my story
but all I ever saw was nothing but a shade
the phantoms of a lifetime, the zenith of my lost days

See me with a long hair and a bad girl
it's so hard to believe that guy was me
who shared my youth with her doing nothing
now all I want to say is, and all I want to do is
just take my bitter zenith
and throw it right away with love

It's only me, that's what I say,
see what I've done for so many years
It's only me, hear what I say,
see what I've done when you were far away
Now that you've looked at my zenith we can go on!

"The definitive answer"
Here we are, we're all clearing away
we don't like this fire at all
No one talks, people quietly live
pretending they don't understand
We can run at the speed of our hearts
we don't believe in what we say
We deserve to know what it's for,
the definitive answer is....

Carried by an emotion like this
we're flying and pleading our cause
Chairmen there think we're empty and fool
those healers know what we don’t need
We will face this road full of snakes
we won't give up though times are hard
They deserve to meet their own match
the definitive answer is....

WHO WANTS TO KNOW OTHER SECRETS
NOBODY CAN HEAR?
WHO WANTS A WARDROBE
THAT'S ALL FULL OF SKELETONS,
NOBODY DARES TO ASK, NO ONE DARES

Time goes by in that mystery tour,
we laugh 'cause we know what it means
no one speaks, people quietly die
pretending they all understand
We can't hear the sound of our fear
we don't believe in what we trust
We will fight to know what we're for
the definitive answer is....

WHO WANTS TO KNOW OTHER SECRETS
NOBODY CAN HEAR?
WHO WANTS A WARDROBE
THAT'S ALL FULL OF SKELETONS,
NOBODY DARES TO ASK,
NOBODY TOLD US THAT TIME IS A FATHER
WHO EATS HIS CHILDREN ALIVE
AND THEN HE BURPS

Who wants to know the definitive answer?

Now it's late, no emotions for us,
a man comes to strangle my friend
Chairmen here eating candies and fish
are children who lost what they had
We won't face this railroad at all
we don't believe in what we feel
We deserve to know what it takes
the definitive answer is.....

WHO WANTS TO KNOW
OTHER SECRETS NO ONE UNDERSTANDS?
WHO WANTS A WARDROBE WHERE SKELETONS QUARREL,
WHERE TIME IS A FATHER WHO EATS ALL HIS CHILDREN,
WHO WANTS TO BE YOUNG
WHEN THE GODS CLOSE THE CURTAIN?
SO WHO WANTS TO KNOW WHAT'S THE ANSWER
TO ALL OUR LIFE?

Who wants to know the definitive answer?

...Lord B thinks so orchestrally... sounds like a piece of The Bygon Rock opera... easy on the ears! Patti Sterling

Well, here is some stuff better, expanding the consciousness of all that Lord B is, and disregarding matters of time and space. Keep pushing that envelope. Frank Cotolo

EPIC! I'm a long song lover. As I like to say, what's the damn rush? Especially a long song at this level, with the concept album theory working. This is certainly a perfect opening piece for that. Interesting changes throughout, I was hooked the whole time. I love the recurring themes and additions, like the sitar. Very effective. As always, your chord changes are excellent, and your vocal harmonies are a thing of beauty. LOVE the ending. You're quickly becoming my songwriting hero. Anthony Ruocco

I really appreciate the sutle voice effects that happen on occasion... adds that pro-production element to your vocals and helps melt the vocals into the tune and changes. Very well thoughtout tune, congrats mate on your inventiveness! Remo Leomporra
